Roots and wings y’all…
Sometimes the people who you share roots with..
grow different wings…
and to fly with them, you have to go HOME…

What happened last weekend? Annie called and simply said “he’s coming” so I traded a ticket to Coachella for a plane ticket home and I’ll never regret it.
But was it all a dream featuring my friends? Or did I really spend an extended amount of time with Bill Murray?
Did we do private bourbon tours in my home state and hang out in the winner’s circle at the racetrack?
It must be true. Because, even though I speak Disney Princess fluently and am constantly enchanted by my own dreams, Castle and Key was so beautiful I couldn’t have manifested it myself…
The Queen of this castle is Marianne Eaves and she’s Kentucky’s first Female Master Distiller of Bourbon. Also, our tour guide. Listening to her story about following her passion and catching her dream was so inspiring and I’m exciting to follow her journey @mariannebmd
This place was straight out of a fairy tale and when I find Prince Charming, this will be up there on the venue list.
It was truly amazing, but it didn’t stop there.
I’m really proud of the classic southern hospitality they showed us. A special thanks to Master Distiller, Chris Morris!
I learned so much about Kentucky history on this trip and it wasn’t just from the distilleries, it was Annie taking the back roads giving Bill, Joe, Declan and I the 411 on geography, all things hemp, horses and of course, the Narcotic Farm.
Speaking of Hemp…
Right at sunset, we visited a Kentucky farm to show Uncle Bill what Annie had been pushing him to see for years – Kentucky hemp! Farmer Jane showed us around her greenhouse, taught us about the varieties she was growing and how she works her organic magic into her field and her finished CBD product. We didn’t go home empty handed either, as she handed each of us a 500mg bottle of CBD oil. I think she knew we would need it after all the bourbon consumed that day…
The night ended with our favorite local beer garden, Kentucky Native Cafe and then at few local bars downtown. There were several interactions at these places that I’ve spent a lot of time reflecting on with our group. Bill was so cool about people taking pics with him but my heart sank a little at the very end of the night when a lady asked for a photo and he sighed, embraced her and said, “doesn’t just talking mean more?” And then, they talked for 10 minutes.
And then there was Keeneland.
This is a racetrack that I’ve gone to every spring and fall meet my entire life, and long story short, VIP treatment is an understatement. I saw sides of this majestic place that didn’t know existed.
We were brought to the announcer booth through the back always, up varying stairwells, and through odd doors… trying to get into Fort Knox! But into Kurt Becker’s office we went, and blown away we were.
Putting a face to a voice that I’ve been hearing for 20 years… was almost as special as watching him interact with Bill. It was hard to tell who was more thrilled to meet who, 2 legends, face to face. It was a major moment I didn’t expect and I will never see Keeneland the same way again. I’m extremely grateful to all the people who took part in rolling out the ‘green’ carpet to us during our visit, especially, Bill Thomason.
My friend Annie and I share the same roots, and our wings have taken us to incredibly different places in our lives. But for this weekend, we flew together, and I’m grateful to be apart of a family as beautiful, welcoming, and wonderful as our party of 14. What an inspiring weekend that we will always remember as the weekend Uncle Bill was in town.
Now that I’m back in LA, my roots are even stronger and my vision has become clearer. All stars align, and I’m thrilled to be sharing all of my new projects and ideas with the world. Cheers y’all – LB
